Brief history about the retired judge Kattusii
In 2006, there was a highly contested election. The high court in Uganda sat to take a final verdict on the matter involving former FDC President, Col (Rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye on allegations of rate. It was a do-or-die. So in his judgment Justice Kattusii acquitted Besigye indicating that investigations into the matter were “an amateurish concoction” This was one of his high profile cases that he is remembered for during his career before he finally retired in 2011.Recently on appointment a reporter of a popular tv station in Uganda decided to go and interview retired Justice Katusii to find out from him if its true he is healed of diabetes. Good afternoon, Hon. Katussii, you are one of the prominent public figures who has decided to speak out on how you have fought diabetes and from your own words, how did it happen because people say diabetes is incurable?
He pauses and pulls out a digital glucometer,a device used for testing blood sugar levels in the body that hangs from his neck. On close look it reads 5.1.
“This is what it has been reading for a couple of years. My glucose levels used to fluctuate between 11.9 and 13 . It has been between 5.1 to 6.6 since I took that medicine.
He must have thought we were not believing his story so he excused himself and went pick his medical records. He showed us the papers and had to explain to us using what the doctors have written. True to his word the documents explain his diabetic history well. Hon. Kattusii
I have been battling diabetes for more 13 years and on constant medication. In early 1990s I kept feeling bouts of uneasiness with constant sweating and irregular urinating. However, I rubbished of the signs because I was too busy with my work serving my government. When the signs intensified I had to go to my personal doctor for my monthly checkups. It is then that the results showed diabetes.
Perhaps these papers can tell you the history and when it was done. They will give you a picture of what am talking about. As you see from the records the first test was done in 2004. I decided to to go to another medical facility to validate the results, and they confirmed I’m diabetic.
I was immediately introduced to drugs at IHK and routine checkups and was removed from sugar completely and reduce the level of salt to nearly zero. I was introduced a daily routine exercises to help me physically. Being a person who was not used to exercises I found it unsettling but had no otherwise. The doctors told me my predicament had been caused by my lifestyle, the type of food I was eating and the lack of regular physical exercise to release extra salts from the body.
So I was given insulin which I used all the time but as a norm is , there is no cure for diabetes so I was supposed to count the days diabetes would finally take me to my grave.
Sometimes back I had a stroke that nearly ended my life. I was taken to Nairobi I was treated. The doctors in Nairobi told me the stroke was associated with high blood pressure and diabetes. I have since recovered but from then I started getting memory loss. I keep forgetting history of events.
Now tell us about this magical solution that you came across that gave you hope of living again. And where is this medicine ? Where can a normal Ugandan get it from?
I had gone to my golf club in Kololo then after the game we went to the restaurant with the people were playing with. One of them was my long-term client while I was I private practice. When the waitress came and people placed orders I told her not to put any salt in my food. My former client wanted to know why I was ordering salt less food. I told her you know Ugandan hostels put a lot of salt in food, and I’m diabetic so my body can’t entertain a lot of salt.
She laughed and told me she used to have the same condition but not anymore. I was interested. Because I was like a convict on death row so any sign of life is golden and welcome. She did not narrate much, just gave me a number to call and say she had recommended me.
Of course I didn’t believe at first because if it cures as she alludes then how come many people still struggle with the disease?
When my friend saw I was hesitant, she offered to order for me a dose of one month for free. She told me to monitor my sugar level and we shall speak after a month. I reluctantly took the drug. You see my doctors had told me diabetes is incurable and when I goggled some facts about it I found the same results so when someone tells you it reverses the diseases you will be tempted to think it’s a just lies and its not possible. The belief is imprinted in the mind.
So I started using the drug, I didn’t tell my doctor about it because he would not approve the decision. I decided to give it a try after telling my wife about it. She supported me. True to my friends words after 3 weeks I started feeling better. I didn’t go to the hospital for the monthly checkup.
Now sir kindly tell us about the researcher who discovered this medicine. You said he’s a Ugandan?
Yes yes. His name is …oh I can’t remember because of my memory condition but I have the records with his name and I have his number. But he prefers to be referred to as a reseacher. So when I finally saw that I was healed I decided to ask him why he has not launched the drug to the masses. He told me part of the challenges was finding approvals from the drug authority to test it on animals before doing it humans. He says some powerful pharmaceutical companies were against it and he gets threats about the same. He was wondering why if someone has found a cure for the disease they are not supported to come with a commercial product for the locals. I decided to use my influence to write a letter to the permanent secretary of health ministry to test this drug and approve for local manufacturing so that it can help heal many Ugandans of diabetes but I don’t think he acted on it because I have never received any response from them. So I came to believe Ssemakulas story of facing obstacles. If I’m a former judge but can’t get their attention how about a normal citizen get a response?
So one of his clients with an Indian background after being healed, he approached the researcher and connected him to a one pharmaceutical company in Mumbai that is well known for herbal and traditional medicines. They gave him a deal which he took because of the frustrations he was facing in Uganda. The approvals in India didn’t take long because they saw the value and in few months the supplement was commercially manufactured.

I think that was fair enough because it is still available to all East Africans.
